Vibrator Review: The Ora By Lelo 14

First Impressions:
This is not the first rodeo I have taken with the Lelo Insignia range. I recently reviewed the Ida a toy designed for couples from the same range and was less that pleased with the results. That said I’m always willing to give a different toy in the same range a chance and so when Burlesque asked me for an honest review, I jumped at the chance to try the Ora which is designed for solo use.

Like all Lelo products the packaging for this toy is smart, sexy, and sophisticated. No real surprises there but it is worth mention, because in my opinion this something that Lelo gets right. As I opened the outer package inside I found another black box, and inside that was the Ora itself, a wall charger, storage bag and a user manual.

The Ora itself can be described as an orb or disk shaped toy, and I have to say looks very stylish. I plugged it into the wall, and let it charge for 4 hours before I attempted to use or even play with it. There are three simple buttons that control the Ora and a handle that is cut into the middle of the disk. As I explored more I discovered the secret of the Ora, it had one flat surface on the disk that contains a dimple, which is covered with a silicone membrane, and inside that dimple is the mechanism that once applied to the clitoris should stimulate oral sex, which is what Lelo promises the Ora will do.

As I switched the Ora on, I was pleasantly surprised to find the mechanism inside the dimple rotates, flicks from side to side and as I scrolled through the controls it varies the speed of those flicks and motions. When applied to my hand this produced a pleasurable sensation, but as they say the proof is in the pudding and so I set to work testing the Ora.

Solo Test
So I laid on my back, spread my legs, and applied a liberal dose of SpunkLube, before turning on my new found oral friend. As I applied the Ora to my inner thighs I enjoyed the strong sensations it created, but when I applied the flat dimple to my clitoris, I was not impressed. I could feel nothing, nada, zip! That was unless I basically pulled my labia lips apart and ground the Ora against my vulva. Even then the sensation of the dimpled mechanism going round was more annoying than pleasurable.

I tried rolling onto my front and squatting but no matter how hard I tried, I could not find a position that was pleasurable. Instead I found myself becoming more and more frustrated, and more than a little irritated. It’s not that the vibrations on the Ora aren’t strong and it’s not that the dimple mechanism doesn’t work, it’s the fact the entire toy is basically the wrong shape for pleasure in the first place unless you have a gigantic clitoris that pops out above your outer labia lips, and most women, simply don’t. Even then I’m not entirely sure that it would cut the mustard so to speak.

I’m not one to give up easily so I tried again and again to find a way to use the Ora that would work for me. I tried it in the bathtub as it is 100% waterproof, I tried it standing up in the shower, I tried it sitting in a chair but alas I could find no way I could get it to stimulate anything close to oral sex. I have yet to experience an orgasm from the Ora and considering this is actually a powerhouse vibe I was sorely disappointed.

What’s It All Add Up To?
Sadly the Ora will be joining it’s counterpart the Ira and will be confined to the graveyard of sex toys that don’t deliver which reside in a tub under my desk. I really, really wanted this to work. It’s a luxury toy and is a quality product but no matter how good the quality, if it can’t make me orgasm, then there is little point in me owning it. I think Lelo had a good idea but somewhere along the way they forgot to test it on a real vagina. If this is what I can expect where I lucky enough to receive oral sex from a Swedish guy, I would have to say, I’d give it a miss…
