Book Review: The Right Side Of History & Giveaway

The Right Side of History Book ReviewHave you ever walked down the street and peeked into your neighbors window and wondered what really goes on when the curtains are closed? I know I have and this was kind of how I felt after I had finished reading The Right Side of History, 100 years of LGBTQI Activism.

This is not your average history book and if you are looking for the definitive guide to LGBTQI history, this might not be the book you are seeking. That said, I think this book is far more fascinating and personal as it contains reflections and essays from many who were maybe not at the forefront of activism, but were certainly in the trenches, so to speak.

Book Review: Best Sex Writing of the Year: Edited by Jon Pressick

Book Review: Best Sex Writing of the Year: Edited by Jon Pressick

Best Sex Writing of the year, Edited by Jon PressickI was excited to read this book as I’m not unfamiliar with the work of the editor of these tales of sex, Jon Pressick.  I love Jon’s work and I had high hopes as I settled down to read this collection one stormy New England weekend.

I wasn’t disappointed and quickly became engrossed in the words that leapt off the page and into my head. I love books that make me think, that challenge the way I think about something that I think I may know something about and this collection certainly did that and a whole lot more.

Sex And Cupcakes: A Collection Of Essays Writtten By Rachel Kramer Bussel

Sex And Cupcakes: A Collection Of Essays Writtten By Rachel Kramer Bussel

Sex and Cupcakes a Collection of EssaysI love sex and I love cupcakes, and I don’t know anyone that doesn’t. Unless of course your partner is busy eating a cupcake whilst you are trying to have sex with them, which can, I’m told, lead to divorce and much worse, but I digress.

Back to the matter in hand, which is unfortunately not a cupcake, but it is a book that combines both past times. Sex and cupcakes, is a collection of essays that have been penned by the wonderfully talented Rachel Kramer Bussel. I’ll admit when I first read the title I immediately understood it. I’ve been lucky enough to hang out with Rachel a few times, and we have shared cupcakes, donuts, and scary stories of erotic writing during those times. Oh, and we may or may not have thrown some brownies into the mix too, but I will never tell!

I read a lot of essays as part of the research I do for Clitical. Most I skim, some I love, and others I just scoff at. So when I settled down one evening to read Sex and Cupcakes, which is a collection of personal essays I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into. I’m glad to report that after reading just a few of these essays I was enthralled.
